Scenic Residence

Project Overview

Located in the Yakima Valley, this private residence sits above sagebrush-covered hills with expansive views down into the lush green river basin below. The home is carefully oriented to engage the landscape, with large south-facing windows and a cabana and pool terrace positioned along the southern edge of the residence to take full advantage of light, views, and outdoor living opportunities.

Design Intent

The primary objective of the landscape design was to support the client’s outdoor lifestyle while minimizing impact on the surrounding environment. The landscape was conceived as an extension of the natural hillside—structured where needed for daily use, and restrained where the site could remain largely intact.

Landscape Strategy

A predominantly native and climate-responsive planting palette was used to reinforce the regional character and reduce long-term water demand. Deciduous trees were strategically placed to provide seasonal shade and passive solar benefits, while a fescue lawn mix was selected to balance usability with reduced irrigation requirements. Local stone and materials were incorporated into pathways and site elements to further ground the landscape in its setting.
