The Elwood offers 46 affordable housing units. Landscape amenities include a community garden, central lawn and multiple outdoor patios within a garden setting. Plant selection for The Elwood is based on ease of maintenance, with priority given to species native to the region. Overall, the palette focuses on a foundation of fine-textured shrubs and grasses with upright forms and multi-trunked trees to provide a contrasting softness to the modern buildings.

Along the north side of the property, linear massing of grasses provide a soft screen between residents of the Elwood and Fourth Plain Boulevard. Additionally, they create a well-defined horizontal plane and soft movement that plays off the vertical windows above. Grasses have also been chosen for the foundation plantings along all sides of the buildings to connect the new landscape to the natural geography of the Fourth Plain area.
