Project Overview
Mason Studios is a multi-phase residential project connecting four properties located in the heart of the Cully Neighborhood. Working closely with the client and Harka Architecture, Bryan developed a landscape master plan that unifies the sites into a cohesive whole while preserving privacy and identity for each individual residence.
Design Intent
The design intent was to balance community and privacy through landscape rather than hard boundaries. Instead of reinforcing property lines, the landscape is organized to encourage shared use and visual continuity, creating spaces where residents can come together naturally while still feeling protected within their own homes.
The overall approach favors softness, movement, and layered planting as a way to dissolve edges and establish a calm, garden-oriented environment within an urban neighborhood.
Landscape Strategy
Curvilinear pathways and sweeping planting beds extend across property lines, visually and spatially connecting the four sites. These gestures blur traditional divisions between parcels and guide movement through the landscape in a way that feels informal and intuitive.
The materials palette of weathered steel, crushed rock, wood, and concrete was selected to complement the contemporary architectural language while providing durability and tactile contrast. Planting introduces a colorful, Japanese-inspired palette that adds seasonal interest and richness, softening the harder material elements and reinforcing a sense of enclosure and immersion.
