Terrace Residence

Project Overview

The Terrace Residence is a private residential landscape that blends modern architectural expression with references to the site’s agricultural history. The property is organized around two driveway entries that lead to a central entry courtyard, creating a clear and intentional arrival sequence. The courtyard serves as a visual and experiential focal point, offering a lush green landscape framed by large windows within the residence.

The landscape includes a series of outdoor living spaces, including a covered patio, pool deck, and spa, all designed to support everyday use while reinforcing a strong connection between interior and exterior spaces.

Design Intent

The design intent was to balance contemporary form-making with subtle historical reference, creating a landscape that feels grounded and purposeful. Large concrete elements are used to define entries and circulation, establishing a strong modern framework, while rustic steel fencing introduces material warmth and references the site’s past use as an orchard.

The landscape is designed to feel composed yet livable—structured enough to support clear movement and organization, while softening through planting and material contrast to create a welcoming residential environment.

Landscape Strategy

Concrete forms are strategically placed to organize space, guide entry, and reinforce the architectural language of the residence. These elements emerge from the landscape as sculptural features, defining thresholds and anchoring key outdoor areas. Rustic steel fencing bridges the transition between hardscape and planting, visually tying the contemporary landscape to the site’s historic agricultural context.

Planting within the entry courtyard is intentionally lush, creating a verdant foreground visible from interior living spaces and providing contrast to the surrounding hardscape. Additional landscape elements—including the covered patio, pool deck, and spa—are carefully integrated to maintain continuity of materials, circulation, and spatial hierarchy across the site.
